Making a Bowie part 2 : The Handle
Переглядів 4,5 тис.2 роки тому
THIS KNIFE IS SOLD NOW. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT. In this video I focus on the handle portion of the build, completing the knife. Handle materials are 303 stainless steel and arizona desert iron wood. This video is a little longer because it is so hard to include all the details. Even now it feels rushed, but I elected to leave as much of the interesting techniques as I could. Many do...

This knife will be available for sale to my youtube followers. Price is US$1000 and includes the Knife, usb drive with uncut footage, forged youtube play button and a custom display box. Thank you for watching and s...

Preview : Crusader Bowie
Переглядів 2,2 тис.2 роки тому
I finished this knife for a customer and thought you might like to see it before it heads off. I am very proud of this knife. I don't know if the grind is unique but I have coined it the Crusader grind, emploing styles of sword and blending it with bowie style. Side note : The theme is based on customer request.

Making a Puukko
Переглядів 906 тис.4 роки тому
One of my most popular knives is the Scandanavian style Puukko. My design is contemporary rather than traditional. I use 75CR1 steel that I have laser cut from 4mm sheets. Each blade is fully hardened and tempered individually, before grinding. The finish on this blade is a fire scale finish with an A30 bevel finish. I don't polish the bevels because the method of sharpening these blades will q...

@5:00 Love the tongs dancing to rock music on the bottom right corner
Such a nice blade. Love it.
Thanks man. Big fan.
Horrifically horrible guitar playing.
Absolutely amazing blade. Hopefully one day I'd be able to make something half as good.
Great job, thank you for the tips.
cheeeeeeekie!
Why do you put this music on? I had to turn off.
agree, it was bad.
You guys should put on lipstick 💄 and a dress 👗. Because this music ROCKS
@theunknownatheist3815 no it is seriously shit and seriously takes away from what is happening
Hello, nice tutorial and really nice freehand grinding skill; you made it so straight! Thumbs up!
Увидев эти гриндеры, я был шокирован! Ещё меня шокировало количество брусков для рукоятей! Нож получился шикарный!
This band is awesome. I hope they play that song again.
I have watched hundreds of videos, from some of the most well regarded smiths, but this vid managed to teach some things that they all leave out. Well done!
Oh yeah that thing will hit welding temps for sure, very nice.
Вот это нож.Работяга, не пижон... )))
great handle, but bad blade because industrial one !
No music!
Absolutely no need for the ridiculous music. A commentary would have been much more appropriate. Unwatchable.
couldn't agree more. 😁
Wow, time for bed grandma.
It's always a special day when there's a new Stuart Smith video
Can you blacken brass this way
this is mild steel. i think it needs iron to work, but it couldnt hurt to try
Brilliant! Thank you for sharing Sir 🤘🏻
I find that if you heat it slightly further after the quench it can get very very black. What i do for my parts is: quench (sub critical temp) then take it out, heat it till it looks dry, use an oiled rag and continually wipe oil on it. Its a mess but it can have a very strong black color this way
Great video, Stuart. Thank you. Bjorn
Bro do you sell your product?
Well done But the music is zéro Excuse me
the music is at its best! 😁👍
beautiful work man!
Is that like gold impregnated chopped carbon fiber sandwiching blue lapis? Or are all those pieces that are not steel, some type of ; mineral, rock, stone, gem stone, crystal, iron/ chondrite or.some other naturally occuring material? Or epoxy? Whatever it is, its Very cool thats for sure.. i would go check it out but i got locked out of my instagram basically years ago and ive been bitter about it ever since, so...
Gold leaf carbon fibre and blue mammoth tooth
William from Forging Brothers here... This knife you made looks super cool! 😎 Absolutely love the handle! ❤️
That's cool, very nice! What is the Damascus pattern on the blade?
It looks beautiful , we can't see the entirety of its glory though. Can you capture a picture of the whole knife please? Well done Mr Smith, well done..
Yeah it's my first short. Took it from one of my Instagram videos
wonderful knife, this is the "finka" of my dreams
welcome back Stuart. Where are you located?
johannesburg South Africa
Great idea, I always try air hardening, water quenching and then oil quenching, all with a file test, but this would definitely speed things up a bit!
I know the creator probably won’t ever see this, but what was that he soaked the handle in for 10 hours??? Boiled linseed???
exactly that
@@StuartSmithHandForgedKNives thank you sir! I have fiddled with knife making for years, but now I have a forge that was given at Christmas and I am pumped to start actually forging knives instead of just piddling. Thanks
İs that linseed oil?
Nice work dude 💖💖
Great video thank you Stuart! I have a whole bunch of your first knives. Question why did you not glue in the 3rd middle pin?
Nice work. Looks like new. And as you said. If someone spent 6 months looking for this knife. They must have really liked it. So im sure it will make someone very happy to have it back in working order.
Brilliant!!!
Really beautiful work. Always nice to get to "visit with an old friend". I'm sure the owner will be over the moon!
It seems that the knife was probably just perfect as it was it obviously was very difficult for you to remove the handle material a quick sanding and some lacquer or oil and the handle material would have been fine and I'm sure the blade could have been sanded really quick on a trizact belt or something and buffed and done but hey I don't know
Very beautiful knife! Perfect work.
What weight is that hammer?
That`s scandi, not puukko. Puukko hasn`t ricasso, and the bevel is higher than half the blade!
Ive got a wirkalla puuko. It's too valuable to actually use. This one looks nice- how much does it cost?
Just came upon your video. What happened to making videos? Did something happen? I hope you are ok?
Thanks for watching. I am ok. Just a pain to make and edit videos. I want to do more. Just need to make time.
@StuartSmithHandForgedKNives I totally understand. I was just worried with Covid and no vids. I enjoyed the videos I did watch
Судя по животу, ножевой мастер живёт не плохо, с заказами проблем нет.
Хочу такую мастерскую 😮
minus ten for the music
a poor choice for sure. Hindsight is 20/20
Very best videos I’ve seen on heat treating by far! Thanks heaps mate
Please, dnt play music, but nice job
I was just wondering why you didn't drill your tang and pin it. Plus bevel your scales before glueing. Nice job 👏
Nice puukko, but the music was not neccessary.
I put it on mute.
